Joint Letter to the Administration Re Student Accommodation Issues

Joint Letter to the Administration Re Student Accommodation Issues

Dear Members,

I hope that all is well with you. I’m very pleased to share with you here , a joint letter regarding concerns about the UVic senior administration’s approach to student accommodations that is co-written and co-signed by the FA, the PEA, CUPE 4163, CUPE 951, the Society for Students with a Disability (SSD), the University of Victoria Students Society (UVSS), the Graduate Students Society (GSS), and a number of other concerned student organizations.  We are very pleased to be able to work together with these groups to present our shared concerns and shared demands on this important issue. The administration has tried in the past to divide FA members from staff and students on this matter, but we all share significant concerns about the administration’s approach to student accommodations. We sent this letter to the senior administrators addressed in this letter last Wednesday.  We received an acknowledgement of receipt of the letter from the Chair of the Board of Governors, but have not yet heard back from any of the other senior administrators.  We trust that they will seriously engage with our joint concerns and provide a positive response to our important requests.

If you are on social media, you may be interested in checking out the SSD’s posts regarding this joint letter on Instagram, here.

All the very best,

Lynne Marks
President, and Chief Negotiator, University of Victoria Faculty Association
