Campus Services Announces Changes to UVic’s Childcare Services
Campus Services expands full-day daycare for 3 to 5-year olds, but cancels After School Care
On Thursday, June 23, the Faculty Association learned that UVic’s After School Care Program, which currently has 45 spaces, will be closed permanently in June 2017. A memo from Jim Forbes, Director of Campus Services. While the cancellation will create 40 new full day care spaces for 3-5 year olds, the loss of After School Care may have a significant impact on our Members. We are concerned about the decision-making process, which appears to not have fully explored the potential impacts for parents who work on campus.
As such, we are inviting feedback from our members on the following questions:
- Do you anticipate needing child-care space at UVic for 3-5 year olds, now or in the future?
- Do you anticipate needing After School Care and summer camps at UVic, now or in the future?
- Should the Faculty Association encourage the administration to provide a new location for After School Care, while still expanding spaces for 3-5 year olds?
- What other information would you like to share about UVic Child Care Services and your current or future needs?
