Mandate - University of Victoria Faculty Association

Purposes of the faculty association

The Faculty Association Constitution states the purposes of the Association to be:

  • 2.1 to manage relations between the University of Victoria and the Association,
  • 2.2 to act as sole negotiating agent regarding the terms and conditions of employment of all
    Members of the Association,
  • 2.3 to maintain and promote the professional and material status of Members, and
  • 2.4 to promote the welfare of the University of Victoria and further the cause of higher education by upholding the principles of academic freedom, tenure, equity, and human rights within the University.
The UVic Faculty Association represents its members in negotiations with the Administration and Board of Governors in all matters regarding salaries, terms and conditions of appointment including tenure, promotion, re-appointment and leave, and exists to provide individual members with aid and information in those matters within its purview. Standing Committees such as the Committee on Compensation and Benefits, the Equity Committee, Librarians Committee, Senior Instructors Committee and the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, as well as ad hoc committees established for a specific purpose are used to aid the Executive in running the affairs of the Association.
